Clark School is part of the Kentucky Center for Instructional Discipline program (KYCID) with the philosophy of good behavior equals a greater capacity for students to listen and learn while at school. Clark School's KIDS Team, who oversees the KYCID program, celebrated good behavior recently with an ice cream dance party for students who have stayed on Green for the first 9 weeks of school.

There were 416 students who earned good behavior rewards for the first 9 weeks of school. Of those, 235 students earned the Green Reward; 72 students earned the Yellow Reward; and 109 students earned the Orange Reward. Clark School uses a color-code system indicating student behavior: Green = good behavior; Yellow = verbal warning; Orange = miss 1/2 recess.

The second 9-weeks behavior rewards for students will have a Karaoke Party theme and be held in January.4th_graders_on_green.jpgmr._guy_at_reward_party_08web.jpgclark_red_ribbon_week_1_of_3.jpg

Clark fifth graders only traveled a few miles, but stepped back in time nearly two hundred years as they toured the Fort Massac Encampment at Metropolis, Illinois. Students rotated in groups to hear various re-enactors as they explained various aspects of early American history, including how to make rope, how to speak Shawnee, and how to fire cannonry.  Additional pictures can be seen at http://bluetornado.smugmug.com

How much blood can an elementary student give? Quite a bit, as it turns out.

On Wednesday, October 1, Clark students recruited parents, friends and family members to give blood for their first ever "Pint Size Heros" blood drive, bringing in 47 presenting donors and 24 first time donors.

Pint Size Heroes is an initiative sponsored by the Red Cross. The program is designed to introduce students to the blood donation process through an educational session and a blood drive held at the participating school.  Students play a major role in the drive by recruiting a parent, guardian, or other adult to give blood. clark_blood_drive_1_of_2.jpgclark_blood_drive_2_of_2.jpg
