McNabb fifth grader David Watkins was honored at the Paducah Board of Education meeting on April 15, 2013 for winning the county and state AARP Grandparent of the Year Essay Contest. Watkins and his grandfather will receive awards at the 12th Annual "AARP Kentucky Grandparent of the Year" ceremony in Louisville on April 23.

Baltimore Ravens defensive lineman Bryan Hall (PTHS '06) discussed the role hard work played in his success as a student at Arkansas State and in professional football as he talked with McNabb students and answered their questions on February 27.
Hall, who graduated in three years from Arkansas State with a degree in business and went on to get a master's in human resources, emphasized the value of education and the effort that is required in both athletics and academics to succeed as a professional athlete.

The McNabb Elementary 3rd/4th and 5th grade basketball teams were recognized for their successful seasons in the McCracken County Elementary School Basketball league at the PTHS vs. Reidland game on January 5. The 3rd/4th team and the 5th grade team were coached by Monte' Hensley, Dante' Hensley, and Kevin Keibler.

McNabb third grader Brenda J. Taylor won first place in the Martin Luther King memorial essay contest. Awards for the essays were presented by the Paducah-McCracken County NAACP and AT&T on January 20.

Dear Parents and Guardians of Paducah Public Schools,
We are shocked and saddened by the tragic events that transpired at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut on December 14. Our thoughts are with all those affected, and we are grateful for the bravery of staff, parents and community partners who reacted immediately to protect the children.
We recognize the impact that events like this can have on each of us—our children, staff, families and friends. We want to assure you that all of us who work for Paducah Public Schools understand that providing students a safe place to go to school is the most important aspect of our work. Please know that as a district we are making every effort to be prepared for an emergency and have our faculty, staff, and students ready to respond if a disaster occurs.

Santa Claus arrived via firetruck to greet kindergarten students at McNabb Elementary. With only three days of school left before Christmas break, Santa is busily checking to see who's been naughty and who's been nice.

McNabb Enrichment Program is in Full Swing |

McNabb Elementary has extended its services to encompass a full enrichment program that allows students in grades 3-5 to choose activities that help create life-long skills. The purpose of the enrichment program is to push the students to excel in the classroom.
"We at McNabb Elementary have already prioritized our purpose to be an arts-focused school with the intent of strengthening our overall educational productivity," said Principal Greg Ross. "We use our arts focus to encourage students to push for academic excellence."
The McNabb Enrichment Program offers the following programs Monday-Thursday:
- Ballet (Mrs. Brandi Cope- classically trained dancer and local instructor)
- Orchestra (w/ Mr. Doug Van Fleet, Director of the Paducah Jazz Ensemble & former PTHS Band Director)
- Poetry (Karen Smith and Samuel "Snacks" Hawkins-local poet)
- Honor's Choir (Natalie Krupansky- featured vocalist with the Paducah Symphony)
- Core Art (both dance and visual art)
- Home Economics (sewing, candle making, etc.)
- Advanced PE (Shawn McDermott- creator of the Fit Lab and PTHS football coach)
- Yoga
- Literature to Life (creating future authors and story tellers)
- Art of Performance
- McNabb News Channel
- McNabb Newspaper
- Archery
- Academic Studies
- Drama
"Our students are passionate about this and so are our teachers," said Ross. "We hope what we do provides cultural experiences that extends our students passions past what they see on a daily basis. We believe we are beginning careers at an elementary age."
