Dear Parents and Guardians of Paducah Public Schools,

We are shocked and saddened by the tragic events that transpired at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut on December 14. Our thoughts are with all those affected, and we are grateful for the bravery of staff, parents and community partners who reacted immediately to protect the children.

We recognize the impact that events like this can have on each of us—our children, staff, families and friends.  We want to assure you that all of us who work for Paducah Public Schools understand that providing students a safe place to go to school is the most important aspect of our work.  Please know that as a district we are making every effort to be prepared for an emergency and have our faculty, staff, and students ready to respond if a disaster occurs.

You can see information about current district-wide measures here. You can see a chart that shows safety measures that are in place at each of the district buildlings here.

You can  resources for helping your children cope with these events on the district web page.

The Paducah Drug K-9 Unit visited Morgan Elementary students for Red Ribbon Week on October 26 and talked about how they use the drug dog to catch criminals.  They told students where the dog came from, how he was trained and how he is a trained police officer, like the rest of the squad.

After a presentation from the dog, Chief Berry talked to the students about the importance of Red Ribbon Week and how important it is for the students to remain drug free and to stay in school.
