The Kiwanis club awarded a bicycle, helmet and lock to Morgan third grader Sakura Smith on December 17 as a part of the "Read to Ride" program.

The Kiwanis club donated the bicycle as an incentive to motivate students to read.  To qualify to win the bike, students took Accelerated Reader quizzes.  The students' names were placed in the drawing for the bike for each AR quiz that was passed during the fall semester.

Perfect Passenger Program Rewards Bus #21 Riders PDF Print E-mail

Twenty-Eight Morgan students were rewarded with an ice cream sandwich party for their good conduct on August 28.  The students are riders on Bus #21, and were the first students to be honored by the Perfect Passenger Program.

The Perfect Passenger Program was the brainchild of Morgan P.E. teacher Matt Thompson.  Thompson said he has handled bus referrals for Morgan Elementary, but wanted to find a way to give recognition to students who exhibited good passenger behavior as they rode the bus.

Thompson said the students of Bus #21 were chosen based on his observation of their behavior as they boarded and exited the bus, review of bus videos, and interviews with bus drivers.  He intends to select one bus for the honor each month and host a reward for the riders on the last Friday of each month.

Bus Driver Raymond Vick praised the students of Bus for their respect, friendliness, and orderliness while riding the bus.

"They are really a good group," said Vick.  "Their good conduct is a combination of cooperative effort between drivers, teachers, and parents."
