I am very excited to welcome you to a very select group - the student body of Paducah Tilghman High School.  We have reason to be proud of our school because of its outstanding reputation in our state and nation.  Tilghman students for many years have compiled noteworthy achievements in both their scholastic and extra curricular endeavors.  We know that you can appreciate this tradition, and that we can expect you and your fellow students to add to the luster of our school's past accomplishments. PTHS NJROTC Participates in “Easter on the River”

Students of the Paducah Tilghman High School Navy Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (PTHS NJROTC) unit recently participated in “Easter on the River” coordinated by the Seamen’s Church Institute at the Center for Maritime Education in downtown Paducah on Thursday, March 31.

 

The event, locally coordinated by the Rev. Kempton Baldridge, chaplain at the Seamen’s Church Institute (SCI), provides boxes of Easter goodies for the crews of tow boats that will be underway on the rivers on Easter. The cadets packed over 600 boxes with items donated for the purpose from people around the country.

Potter Wins Regional Speech Title

Victoria Potter, a sophomore at Paducah Tilghman High School and a second year member of the Speech and Forensics team, took first place at the Regional Rotary Club Speech Contest held Monday, April 18, 2011 in Mayfield.

After  winning the right to represent the Paducah Rotary Club in February Potter advanced to  the sectional contest and won again before taking the regional title on Monday.

With the latest win, Victoria earned a $500 cash prize and will represent the Rotary Club of Paducah when she advances to the KY/Southern Indiana District Contest in Frankfort on May 18.

Parent Nominations for School-Based Decision Making Council Due

The PTSO of Paducah Tilghman High School is conducting the election for the two parent representatives of the Site Based Decision Making Council.  The election will take place on Friday, April 29, from 7:30 am to 2:00 pm in the Tilghman lobby. For more information, see the flier here.

You may vote if you are the parent or guardian of a rising 9th, 10th, 11th and/or 12th grader who will attend Paducah Tilghman High School in the 2011-2012 school year.

If you would like to run for SBDM Council or know someone you think will be a good candidate, please pick up a nomination form from the Paducah Tilghman High School office between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. You can contact the office at 444-5650 extension 5655. Completed nomination forms have to be turned in to the Paducah Tilghman High School office no later than Wednesday, April 27 at 2:00 p.m. If you are nominating someone else, they must sign the bottom of the form.  They have to agree to being nominated.

Seven PTHS Students Selected for Governor's Scholars Program

Paducah Tilghman juniors Olivia Carner, Kaitlyn Curry, Jared Holt, Chandler Smith, and Madison Whelan have been chosen as scholars, and juniors Mackenzie Bruce and Courtney Hawkins have been chosen as alternates in the 2011 Governor's Scholars Program.

The Governor's Scholars Program is a prestigious five week summer program that is limited to 1,100 of the state's most outstanding students. Established in 1983, the program provides academic and personal growth through the balance of a strong liberal arts program with a full co-curricular and residential life experience. The scholars will convene this year at Bellarmine University, Centre College, and Murray State University.

PTHS Joins Commonwealth Middle College Program

Students at Paducah Tilghman High School will be eligible to participate in the Commonwealth Middle College for the 11-12 school year, following  the Board of Education's approval of the recommendation to join the program at Monday's board meeting.

Ten students from PTHS will be eligible to enter classes at the Middle College in fall of 2011.

The Commonwealth Middle College, located on the campus of West Kentucky Community and Technical College, allows students to take high school courses, receive their high school diploma, and earn up to 36 hours of college credit at the same time. Tuition is free.

Tilghman Speech Students Take Rotary's Top Regional Prizes

Sophomore Victoria Potter was named Regional Champion in the Rotary International Speech Contest held Thursday, April 14, 2011 in Murray.  She earned a $400 cash prize and will represent the region in the Sectional Contest to be held next week.

Second place in the contest went to junior Chandler Emmons Smith.  She earned a $200 cash prize.
