PT NJROTC Hosts Tornado Triumph Sports Challenge PDF Print E-mail

The Paducah Tilghman High School Navy Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (NJROTC) unit hosted their third annual Tornado Triumph Junior ROTC Sports Challenge on Saturday, September 11. Since this was the 9th year anniversary of 9:11 they had a moment of silence for all that had perished and all that have fallen since then fighting to protect the U.S.

Eight schools participated in the physical fitness meet, held at Paducah TilghmanHigh School. In addition to the Paducah Tilghman Navy JROTC unit, Navy programs from Daviess County, Madisonville North Hopkins, and Butler County Schoolscompeted. Army JROTC units from Muhlenberg County and McLean County High Schools attended in addition the Air Force JROTC unit from Hopkins County Central and Northside High School in Jackson, TN.



Approximately 400 cadets, instructors and guests attended the sports challenge, as the seven schools competed in 12 events. The JROTC cadets vied in a volleyball tournament, tug-of-war tournament, around the world basketball shooting, long jump, one mile relay, 50 meter dash, football relay, dodge ball tournament, laser sharp shooter range, silly games, shot put, and “Best Sportsmanship and Team Spirit.”


Thirty four trophies, sponsored by the Paducah U.S. Army Recruiting Office, were presented at an awards ceremony after all events were completed.


Paducah Tilghman's NJROTC took trophies in one mile relay, 50 meter dash, dodge ball tournament, long jump, shot-put.


Daviess County’s Navy JROTC unit was presented the Best Sportsmanship and Team Spirit trophy.


The award winning Paducah Tilghman NJROTC program is in its tenth year.
